How should I share links to UT Libraries' resources?
Answer
Often, we need to share online resources with colleagues, research partners, or classmates. This can sometimes be tricky! UT Libraries resources are typically paid subscriptions, so the publisher or vendor needs to know that the user is valid and associated with our subscription. Whoever you share the link with needs to be properly authenticated as a UTK user.
The best way to accomplish this is to share permalinks or friendly URLs. This is especially important when sharing off-campus.
Never share the link from your browser address bar. This often causes authentication errors with publishers and vendors.
Instead, you can share:
- Permalinks from OneSearch
- Friendly URLs from our A-Z Databases List
- Share links on publisher and vendor websites
Sharing links can look different between publisher and vendor websites. Here is an example from Kanopy:
Access to UT Libraries subscriptions is restricted to current Faculty, Staff, and Students. Please review our Electronic Resource Use Policy for more information.
