Q. Makerspace

Is the Makerspace available to residents of Knoxville?

Answer

Hello Bryan,

I hope this email finds you well. It is important to note though that Pendergrass Library is currently closed while fire preventive water sprinklers are installed, but I wanted to reach out about what offerings are available to the public. The Makerspace at Pendergrass library has some elements that are available to the public. We do typically offer public usage of our computers, such as the iMacs that are in the Makerspace; however, COVID-19 has impacted some of those privileges. We are in the process of determining for the fall what public usage of computers looks like. 3D printing operations are only available to affiliates of the university (faculty, staff, and students).

If you would like to visit the other branches of the UT Libraries, those spaces are available to the public. We have a guest wifi in all library locations. If you are interested in checking out items from our collection, we offer some privileges to some communities, such as donors, affiliates of Tennessee Board of Regents institutions, and those being sponsored by departments. If you would like to learn more, we have have information about these borrowing privileges on our Public Services portion of the website.

Hopefully this information will be helpful for you. Please reach out by responding to this email if you have any questions.

Best,
