What is Google Scholar CASA?

Answer

Google Scholar CASA, or Campus Activated Subscriber Access, is a development by Google to streamline authentication for remote access to Library resources.

How does it work?

When you are on campus, you can connect to our University network (eduroam or ut-open). When connected, if you go to Google Scholar, Google Scholar will create an affiliation (or "token") between you and UT Knoxville. Now, if you go off-campus, you will still be affiliated with UT Knoxville to access select subscriptions automatically.

CASA is free and functions automatically in Google Scholar for select resources. You do not need a Google account. CASA "tokens" persist for 30 days.

Experiencing issues with Google Scholar CASA?

Some patrons have reported issues with CASA, for example, mangled URLs when researching off-campus on Google Scholar. There is the option to opt-out of off campus linking on your Google Scholar settings page.

Another option is to simply clear your browser cache and cookies. This action should clear out the CASA token and you can start your research fresh.
